Meet Paul Fleming…Our Farmer Extraordinaire
Paul Fleming is the resident farmer here at Shady Brook Farm, and agriculture runs in his blood. Shady Brook Farm was founded by Paul’s great grandfather more than 100 years ago and he is the fourth generation to be working in the family business. Paul began working at the farm when he was 14 years old, packing the turnips and spinach that were grown for the wholesale markets. He began his full time career at Shady Brook Farm after graduating from West Chester University with a B.S. is Business Management. His role has evolved over the years from handling the growing and planting to also managing the many special events, and becoming Vice President of the company.
Even though Paul grew up on a wholesale farm, his passion lies in growing food for the consumer, being out in the fields, and bringing the customer out to the farm for the experience. Paul is connecting his farming role to his special events role by hosting festivals surrounding pick your own crops, incorporating homegrown fruits and veggies into his special Friday Night unWINEd menus, and providing fresh picked harvests to the Farm Market.
Paul’s latest project is a new Ball Zone sports area featuring soccer (one of his other passions!), baseball and football activities. It will be open in the Festival Field just in time for Fall Fest. Looking into the future, Paul is eager to see how the next generation of Flemings will “grow” the family business.
