Meet Rob Rogers, Our Commercial Sales Manager
Where were you born, where do you currently reside and with whom?
I was born in Abington, PA, raised in Jamison, PA, and now I live in Yardley, PA.
What is your relationship/history/length of time at shady brook?
It all started back in 2011. There was a mulch driver job opening that was down to me and another guy names Rob. I’m pretty sure that they made a mistake and called the wrong Rob, but at the end of the day I was hired and have been at Shady Brook for 8 years. I started out as a driver and when that season ended I started out helping in special events and Christmas tree sales. As soon as Christmas was over, I used my years of restaurant experience to keep working in deli in the off season. Once spring came back around I went back to delivering mulch and working part time as a loader operator in our bulk yard. I am now one of the managers here at Shady Brook and am also on our retail leadership team. Who knew???
Tell us a Little About Techo-Bloc
Techo-Bloc is a Canadian based company that manufactures concrete materials for hardscaping. Shady Brook Farm is a Techo-Bloc dealer and I also manage that part of the business. They have a huge product line with tons of different options based on what sort of backyard lifestyle you desire. They come in all different shapes, sizes and designs with plenty of colors to choose from.
How have you helped the business “grow”?
I feel I have helped the business grow by investing in Shady Brook as much as they have invested in me. I’ve been able to fit in wherever I am needed, and hopefully when this ride eventually comes to an end I can say I grew as much as this company has since I started working here.
what do you look forward to in the future?
Well, being that I have already seen the Phillies win the World Series and have watched the Eagles win the Super Bowl, I am truly hoping that someday soon I will see the Orange and Black (Flyers) win the Stanley Cup. And I guess not to leave them out, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Sixers win the NBA Championship…but I hope my “Fly Guys” win first!
What is your favorite season at Shady Brook?
It’s a tie between fall and winter. Fall because it’s the time of year when I get to imitate being a bartender and help out with the events at the Farm Market. I also get to work part-time helping out at our HorrorFest event. Winter is great because of selling Christmas trees. I can’t say enough about the guys that I have the honor of working with out there. It’s a lot of hard work, but in the end it’s a lot of fun and totally worth it!
What is Your Favorite Fruit?
I would definitely have to say pineapple, and lucky for me we get it here weekly no matter what time of year. Also lucky for me, the wonderful Maria (of Maria’s homemade guacamole fame) slices it up fresh everyday and saves me some every time! What more could I ask for???
Can You Share a Fun Fact or Two?
I played goalie for my local and high school ice hockey teams for 5 years. I also worked in Wyoming drilling oil for about two years.
Anything Else WE Should Know?
I still secretly get excited when I’m asked to run a delivery. It always brings me back to my roots here at the farm.
